Import Data Dialog

You use the Import Data dialog to import data from your DHI lab. You can get to this dialog by selecting Tools->Import Data from the main menu.

WARNING: Do not try to import two different herds into the same herd database. If you are using DairyLive to manage more than one herd, be sure to import the file into the correct herd database.

File Type
This list shows the kinds of files that can be imported. The following are currently supported:
AgSource 310 File A 310 file contains the lactation data for a single test day. You can ask your AgSource DHI tester to have these files mailed to you automatically after each test.
AgriTech Receive File This kind of file contains the lacation data for a single test day and is available from AgriTech Analytics. Contact AgriTech for information about how to obtain this file after each test date.
Standard Transfer Files A standard transfer file conforms to the National DHIA specifications and contains all information for your herd going back several years. It is useful when you are first setting up your herd database. To obtain this file, contact your DRPC.
Raleigh DNL File This kind of file contains also contains lactation data for a single test day and is available from DRMS in Raleigh. Contact DRMS for information on how to obtain this file. Note that many DHIA organizations in the country use DRMS for their data processing. Contact your DHIA to find out which processing center handles your herd data.
Gallenberger PRT File This kind of file contains also contains lactation data for a single test day and is available from the Gallenberger lab. Contact Gallenberger for information on how to obtain this file.
Greenoak Parlour Server File This kind of file contains lactation data from the Greenoak Parlour System through a CSV file that can be exported Greenoak's system.
Boumatic 18*101# Report This file is available from Boumatic models 2040, 2045, and 2050. To capture this report, you will need to enter the following command from your Boumatic AgriTerm program:

agricapt filename 101

The file name can be any file name you want, such as a file on your floppy disk. For example,

agricapt a:\June07.dat 101

Germainia Test Day File This file is available from Germainia parlor equipment. For information on how to create this file, consult your Germainia documentation.
Dairyplan Milk Weight Report This file can be generated by your Westfalia Dairyplan system. Contact Westfalia for more information.
PA DHIA Initial Load The PA DHIA "initial load" files consists of three files: a ".TMB" file, an ".LDP" file, and an ".LDT" file. You should request these files from Pennsylvania DHIA to initially load the data they have for your herd into DairyLive.
PA DHIA Test Day Update This file contains the data for the last test date. The file type is ".LDR" and you can obtain this file from Pennsylvania DHIA.
Canada DHIA Daisy File This file contains the data for the last test date for Canada DHIA.
Canada DHIA Historical Files You can specify up to three files for this option.  Click Browse to select the files.  The three file types are: Historical cow identification file, Historical cow terminated lactation file, and Historical cow test detail file.  Be careful that you select the correct file as DairyLive has no way to make sure the file is of the correct type.  For more information, contact your DHIA in Canada.
AIC Session Files Files Click Browse to select the AIC Herd Tracker files you want to import. For more information, contact your AIC representative.
DairyLive Transfer File This file is used to import data from another DairyLive program. To export data to this type of file, select one or more animals in the Herd Explorer or a check list and select Export Selected Animals from the Other Actions menu from the main Object menu.
Rumitag Equivalence File This file contains the mappings between the visible cow identifier and the RFID number as stored in the Rumitag reader. Use this type to import this information from your Rumitag GES3s reader. Make sure your reader is plugged into your computer. It will show up as additional drive. Locate the file you want to import.
Rumitag Test Data Files These files contain test data that was captured by a Rumitag reader. Use this type to import this information from your Rumitag GES3s reader. You can import multiple files.
Custom Import You can set up your own custom import. See Custom Import Setup dialog for more information.
File Name or Location
If you know the name of the file, you can type the full name in here, including the drive letter and folder name. Otherwise, you can press the Browse button. This will present the familiar File Open dialog, which lets you look for the file. When you have selected the desired file, press Open to return to this dialog. (NOTE: For PA DHIA Initial Load Files, you will enter the name of the folder where the .TMB, .LDP, and .LDT files are located.)
Do Not Import Events
If the file you are importing contains events (such as breedings, calvings, etc.) and you do not want them to be imported, check this box.  If this is checked, then only the production data will be imported.  (Note:  If you check this option, be sure that all your events are up-to-date for your animals before performing the import operation.)
 
Data Is in Metric
Normally you will leave this checkbox the way it was when the dialog appeared.  It will be unchecked if your settings are using English measurements, and it will be checked if your settings are using metric measurements.  If for some reason the measurements in the file are different from your settings, adjust the checkbox state.  See Options Dialog for information on how to change this setting.
 
Do not change barn names for existing animals
If you do not want to have DairyLive change the barn name or number for an animal that it matches through another identifier, check this box.
 
Default breed for new animals
DairyLive will try to make the best guess for what breed animals are being imported if the breed is not specified in the import file. You can override that selection here.
 
Import
To begin the import operation, press the Import button. Note that if you have a large file, the entire operation can take a while. A progress bar on the bottom of the dialog will show you approximately how much has been imported so far.
 
Schedule
If you want to schedule the import for a later time, click this button. (This feature is still in development.)
 
Stop
If, for some reason, you want to halt the import operation, press the Stop button. Note, however, that any data that has already been imported will stay in the herd database.
 
Close
When the import operation is finished, press the Close button.
 
Messages
This area will contain information, warning, and error messages that are generated during the import operation.
