The Report View

The Report View is a window that shows summary information, such as averages, over a period of time. To get to the Report View, double-click on an analysis report name in the Herd Explorer.

The information that is shown in a report is based on one or more lists. Before designing a report, first design one or more check lists that select the animals you want to report on.

When the Report View first appears, it will be blank. To generate the report, click on the Refresh button. Depending on your herd size and the list's design, it will take a few moments for the report to be created.

Designing the Report

The toolbar along the bottom of the Report View window has a button for designing the report. When you click on this button, the Report Design dialog will be shown. See that help topic for more information about designing your report.

Saving the Report to the Herd Database

The toolbar along the bottom of the Report View window also has a button for saving the report. This saves the report design, not the contents of the report that were generated. This button will be enabled whenever you have made a change to the report design but haven't saved it yet.

Exporting the Report to an External File

The toolbar along the bottom of the Report View window also has a button for exporting the report. This saves the report contents to an external file that can be imported by other applications, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. You can save the report contents in one of two formats:

When you click on the Export button, you will be presented with a File Save dialog. Select the type of file you want to create (HTML or CSV) from the "Save as type" list, and then type in the name of the file. You can also change to a different folder.

HTML files can be published on the Web or imported into some word processing applications, such as Microsoft Word. Comma-separated files can be imported into Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.

Printing the Report

You can print the report that was generated by clicking on the Send to Printer button in the toolbar.

Refreshing the Report

If something changes in DairyLive that may cause the report to become outdated, a message "Press Refresh to update the report" will appear on the toolbar. Press the Refresh button to re-generate the report with the current data.
