DairyLive: Smart Software for the Smart Dairyman!

Dan Sanderson's new car has been turning a lot of heads around New Richmond, WI. You maybe have seen one or have heard about them on the news. Here's some information about Dan's Smart car:

The car is called a Smart "fortwo", and has recently been introduced into the United States. The car has been very popular in Europe, with over one million sold over the last ten years. The American version began selling in January of this year. Dan is the 34th owner of a Smart car in Wisconsin.

The car seats two people and is definitely small, smaller than a Mini Cooper. But its outside dimensions are deceptive. It easily accomodates people well over six feet tall, with plenty of head room and leg room to spare. The car weighs about 1800 pounds and has a 3-cylinder 70 hp engine. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 13 seconds, so it's no slouch zooming around town. A Smart is just over 8 feet long, and it can actually be parked perpendicular into a parallel parking space.

Smart cars are manufactured in France. The company is owned by Mercedes-Benz. When Dan was in Italy a couple years ago on business, he saw many of these cars and fell in love with them. After he returned, he learned that they would be available in the US in 2008, so he put in his order in early 2007. There is currently a twelve month waiting period to get a new Smart.

Dan gets many comments, some from complete strangers, about his Smart. One question that almost everyone asks is about the gas mileage, not surprising with the escalating price of gas. The engine burns premium gasoline, and Dan gets from 35 to 45 miles per gallon.

Many Smart owners like to name their little cars, and Dan is no exception. His car is named "Max", after Maxwell Smart, Agent 86, of the TV series, "Get Smart". If you haven't seen the new Get Smart movie, starring Steve Carell, it's in theatres now!

Dan is owner of Living Software of New Richmond, WI. Besides marketing the world's favorite herd management software, DairyLive, his company has recently spun off a new venture called SafeLive Corporation, which markets a highly secure e-mail product called SendItSecure.
